Formed in 1946, a group of three independent operators from Evanston wanted to serve the North Shore community. The drivers strived to offer a higher standard of taxi service by providing customers with more convenience and comfort, such as being on call, opening doors for customers, and always maintaining clean vehicles.
Their first “posts” were at the Wilmette, Winnetka, and Glencoe train stations. The Winnetka train stop provided a call box, predecessor to pay phones. When customers wanted a cab, they dialed “303” which would direct their call to a taxi driver. See the connection? The company were true pioneers of the first dispatch service in the suburbs. A few years later, radio dispatch came along and revolutionized the industry by providing fast and efficient methods of calling and dispatching cabs. Once again, 303 Taxi was one of the first to incorporate this technology into their service routines.
